Being Malta one of the smallest countries in Europe has, of course, a small number of sites classified as World Heritage by UNESCO. Still, both the historic center of the capital Valletta and the extraordinary Hal Saflieni Hypogeum - about 5.000 years old - and the megalithic complex of Malta, are places of great historical and cultural importance in Maltese territory.
