Since 2011, I have been teaching workshops Travel Writing Tools, in such prestigious institutions as the Rectory of the University of Porto, Fundação Oriente, Serralves Foundation or Restart - Institute of Creativity, Arts and New Technologies.
The course, in an intensive training format, lasts for 24 hours, distributed by 3 days well filled (usually on a Saturday and Sunday + Saturday schedule).
Description of the workshop
Those who travel are, as a rule, accustomed to writing. Whether they are small journals with personal experiences, or scattered notes about places, people, and transportation, everything serves to perpetuate in memory of each one the intense experiences that the journey provides. But travel writing is more than that: it is telling stories with the journey in the background; is to convey emotions; is to get others to travel through our gaze.
Traveling to think of writing and write to the reader It is the challenge that we workshop, eminently focused on practical issues. How to plan a work trip? What are the bases on the ground that can lead to a good report (observation and notes, interaction with local reality, action against unforeseen)? How to structure a good story? How to sell the articles?
Come on analyze concrete examples of chronicles and reports, some published and highly praised, others rejected - and realize why they were refused.
Come on go out on the street, with the aim of collecting material and experiences to write a chronicle of travel in an emblematic area of Lisbon or Porto.
Come on share and comment on the writings. Let's learn together.
- On the ground: how to promote the emergence of good stories;
- The phases of writing (from notepad to editing);
- Choose tenses; present or absent narrator;
- The first line; set the course of history;
- Progression and the importance of the outcome;
- Common problems and errors (with material analysis published and rejected);
- Field work abroad, with the purpose of collecting impressions for the elaboration of a short chronicle of trips;
- Editing, analysis and discussion of the chronicles written by the trainees. Sharing experiences and knowledge.

Where are the workshops Travel Writing Tools
None of mine workshops takes place in formal environments, such as traditional white, impersonal training rooms. I try to make space add something to the experience, so I have organized the workshop in very rotating and multifunctional places, linked to the arts or well-being, hand-picked by me.
Em Lisboa, I chose an art gallery at the very creative Lx Factory; at the Porto, the main room of Yoga space over the Port, very bright and with fantastic views of the Clérigos Tower.
Who is this? workshop
All who enjoy traveling and writing; travelers who would like to know the Travel Journalism market; photographers who wish to evolve in the travel writing process; students of Social Communication; all those who have a blog of travel and want to evolve, make it better and eventually more profitable; all who have not yet blog but they liked to create one.
Recommend the workshop led by Filipe is the least I can do in the face of the learning received and the group spirit achieved over the course of a day. O Filipe has shown us how travel is transmitted in words, how smells, landscapes and people turn into stories that allow the reader to be where he may never have been. It is also the possibility of understanding what not to write, how to travel and how to discover each alley of the cities and villages where we travel. O workshop do Filipe is in itself a journey.

We all like to travel; and who does not like a good travel story? The question is how to pick up the fragments we bring, the loose parts we care for, and the whirlwind of feelings we nurture, and give them an organization that can be read by others.
Writing about travel summons the color of our memory; exposes us to the absence of a coherent time; transports us to the magical places of our imagination. It is able to put the emotions to the flower of the skin ...
It is from this art that WS Filipe deals - travel writing.
It is not taught, it is suggested; one does not learn, one shares. They are moments of encounter and discovery in a new journey in so many other trips. It is done with time. It is done with the pleasure of finding new places; with the delight of discovering new companions of adventure; with the frank thrill of finding tools that help us transform our experiences and evasions into stories we like to share with others, guided by the experienced hand of the nomadic FMG. An experience so much!

Read, listen, learn, write and laugh with the Filipe Morato Gomes. As a travel photographer I am, I was looking for something that complemented my visual record during my laps across borders. That was the reason why I workshop to Filipe, and my expectations were exceeded.
I was not in the habit of writing, and I was more for the conviviality and the sharing of travel stories, but the fact is that I was able to absorb some very practical tips for the fluency of the text.
I would advise anyone looking to develop their personal writing skills on their travels, whether it be for their private diary, for a blog, for a magazine, or simply because yes, to do this workshop to Filipe Morato Gomes.

Do the Travel Writing Workshop with the Filipe Morato Gomes It was literally a trip. Travel through words, photographs, stories told with the enthusiasm of an experienced traveler who likes to share what he knows. And as on any trip I learned. I learned to value the notes I always took, to give importance to details, to look long and with other eyes, to hear and feel the places, to let myself be without haste. I learned that you have to stop and stay alert and with time waiting for a good story. I learned that we can always discover something new even in our city. It was days filled with conversations about travel, wise writing tips and delicious encounters!

It's amazing how workshop changed the way I was traveling. I talked more easily with strangers, I had more attention to certain things, like the name of the streets to register of routes, and I did not avoid to enter in small adventures like to ride a bicycle without brakes by the city :). I followed instinct, as was said in conversation in those three days ...
I was privileged to be able to reconcile timing of my trip shortly after finishing the workshop. Unfortunately, I have not yet started writing, but the workshop of Travel Writing has changed my way of looking at things - I am more attentive to what happens around me - and alerted me to small routines, thus allowing me to improve and diversify my experience.
Now I feel more willing to observe, absorb and disseminate experiences, moments and images.
