Almaty is one of the most vibrant Kazakhstan, with large tree-lined avenues, many green spaces, young people, countless cafés and a relaxed atmosphere. It is also one of the largest, so choose well where to stay in Almaty so you can explore it on foot peacefully.
Next post, I will then try to help you choose where to sleep in Almaty for a couple of nights.
Thus, the experience resulting from a recent visit to Almaty, here are my recommendations on where to stay in Almaty. In summary, opt without any doubt for staying in a hotel or small hostel in the center of the city. In particular, the region bounded to the north by the Zelenyy Bazar and to the south by the Dostyk Plaza shopping center. Find all the details below. Let's do it!
Best Accommodations in Almaty
Hotels in the center
I stayed in hostel called Dimal which, despite good recommendations, I find very weak (so it appears in a different color on the hotel map). Within the same registry, you will probably be better LES Hostel or Art Hostel, where I also considered sleeping.
If you want a bit more luxury and do not mind paying for it (in the same register as the Almaty Hotel but a lot better), the Kazakhstan Hotel is perfect for business travelers - and everyone who likes to stay in large hotel chains.
Moreover, in an intermediate point of luxury and comfort, the Almaty Hotel, is one of the most popular and well located large hotels in Almaty. It's not my style, but the one who stayed there praised a lot.
Finally, for those who mention staying in apartments, consider the well-appointed studios Opera Apartments.
There are, of course, dozens of other hotel options in Almaty. If hotels and guesthouses of Almaty that I recommend here are not to your liking (or are depleted), search for other quality options using the link below.
After all, what is the best area to stay in Almaty?
In my opinion, for the traveler who wants to feel the pulse of the city, the center is the best area to stay in Almaty. In particular, the region bounded to the north by the Zelenyy Bazar and to the south by the Dostyk Plaza shopping center. Enjoying a central location, you can easily get out of the hotel on foot and feel the city waking up. And the best is that there are cheap hotels inside in the center of Almaty.
When does sleeping in Almaty cost? (average price of hotels)
Almaty is not an expensive destination and although there are luxury units, it is possible to find cheap hotels in Almaty. Having said that, I was left with the feeling that the quality / price ratio is poor (paid too much for the average hotel facilities). So, for a couple of average requirement, who values the location but does not want to sleep or hostel basic or luxury hotels, the average daily cost will be around 50 €. But it is possible to sleep for less than 20 €.
In particular, for a good bed in a hostel shared with 10-15 €; in a medium-sized hostel, the price per double room is around 40 € (two people); and one night in a more luxurious hotel can exceed 120 €.
How many days do you need to get to know Almaty?
It depends, of course, on your pace of travel; but I would say three days. Of course you can see the main part of Almaty in less time, but you will live a richer experience if you stay at least two or three nights - or more if you want to make visits to attractions outside the city, such as Big Almaty Lake. In any case, choose a good hotel to sleep in Almaty and you will not regret it.
A World Nomads offers one of the best and most complete travel insurance recommended by National Geographic and Lonely Planet. Other excellent and cheaper option is IATI Seguros, which has no age limit and allows multivariate insurance (including long-term travel) to any destination in the world. It's the insurance I use in my travels.
